Linda Harris, PhD, is Senior Health Communication and eHealth Advisor to the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Health, Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, and Director of the Division of Health Communication within ODPHP. In this capacity she runs the National Health Information Center and oversees the management of healthfinder.gov and Health.gov. She is the co-chair of the HHS Working Group on Health Literacy and is on the Advisory Committee to Healthcare.gov.
Prior to this position Dr. Harris designed, implemented and disseminated health information and communication technology research at the National Cancer Institute. Prior to her government service Dr. Harris was the Director of Marketing and Corporate Communications at Concept Five Technologies, a systems integration and software development company and Director of Family Health Programs at the National Business Group on Health.
She has over 25 years experience designing and managing information technology/communication research and development projects in public health and in the private health care sector. She has a Ph.D. in communication, a post doctorate in sociology, and a Service Fellowship in the U.S. Public Health Service. She has a strong understanding of communication systems and extensive experience architecting, designing, developing and evaluating information systems for consumers and health professionals. She has extensive experience in private and public sectors, managing and teaching communication, quantitative and qualitative methodologies and interdisciplinary public/private technology research and development projects. Dr. Harris is the editor of Health and the New Media: Technologies Transforming Personal and Public Health.
