The Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health (OASH) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) hosted 5 regional meetings throughout the United States to spotlight local public health initiatives working across sectors to improve the health of their communities. These communities were Allegheny County, PA; Santa Rosa, CA; Nashville, TN; Kansas City, MO; and Spokane, WA.
Participants included state and local public health officials along with members from the business, nonprofit, environment, housing, local government, and urban planning communities. Each community focused on the following five themes that advance the Public Health 3.0 concepts:
Taking what we heard at these listening sessions – and from many conversations across the department, with our federal partners, and with stakeholders – we will share a final white paper and a series of recommendations for how local public health leaders, elected officials, community organizers, and innovators alike can continue to advance the very important practice of public health.
