They include medication errors, adverse drug reactions, allergic reactions, and overdoses. Two out of 3 ADEs are related to 3 specific types of drugs: anticoagulants, diabetes, and opioids.<\/p>\n<p>ADEs are a significant cause of injury to patients. In inpatient settings, they affect about 2 million hospital stays each year. They\u2019re also responsible for an annual 3.5 million visits to the doctor.<\/p>\n<p>Recently, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services\u00a0 approved new measures for tracking ADEs, which include 2020 target goals for reducing ADEs.
