Linda Harris, PhD, is Senior Health Communication and ehealth Advisor to the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Health, Disease Prevention and Health Promotion and Director of the Division of Health Communication in the Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion in the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health at the US Department of Health and Human Services. In this capacity she oversees the management of healthfinder.gov, Health.gov, health professional communication training and health literacy. She is the co-chair of the HHS Working Group on Health Literacy and represents the Office on the National Academy of Medicine’s Roundtable on Health Literacy.
Prior to this position Dr. Harris designed, implemented and disseminated health information and communication technology research at the National Cancer Institute. Prior to her government service Dr. Harris was the Director of Marketing and Corporate Communications at Concept Five Technologies, a systems integration and software development company and Director of Family Health Programs at the National Business Group on Health. She has a Ph.D. in communication, a post doctorate in sociology and a Service Fellowship in the U.S. Public Health Service. Dr. Harris is the editor of Health and the New Media: Technologies Transforming Personal and Public Health.
